A Remarkable Lady, Ms. Audrey Mehlhouse...
Missouri Valley Habitat for Humanity is very honored to have been the recipient of a $10,816.96 bequest from the estate of Audrey Mehlhouse. Ms. Mehlhouse, with one final and benevolent gift, made it possible for us to keep building a home for a family who needs it. For many generations to come, this house will be known as "the house that Audrey built." God bless you, Ms. Audrey Mehlhouse for your remarkable kindness.

Cash Donations
Missouri Valley Habitat for Humanity relies on cash contributions to buy materials to build homes. The average cost of each home is $85,000. MVHFH relies on individual, local business and church donations for funds to buy many of the building materials for each home. MVHFH writes many grants per year to purchase property, install the water, sewer, and electrical systems. However, it is vital to the success of the mission to eliminate poverty housing that the organization receive cash donations from members of the community.

Contributions, dedicated to loved ones, are a meaningful and lasting memorial. As recognition of your cash contribution, you and the surviving family members will receive a card and a letter of thanks for honoring his/her name in such a special way.

Please send your tax-deductible contribution, by check or money order to:

Other ways to donate to Habitat:

Although cash is the most effective way for us to make use of your donation, there are other ways you can contribute. Please consider the following alternatives:

Time:
Your time is valuable to us. Whether you are skilled or unskilled in construction, we can use your help! This affiliate consists of a Board of Directors and eight (8) committees. Currently, we are recruiting members of this community to fill four vacant positions on the Board of Directors. In an effort to develop a well-rounded board, we are currently searching for a pastor (to guide us with church relations), an attorney (for legal advice), and a fund development person (to research and develop funding sources). Board terms are two years.

Building Materials:
Because of the increasing cost of building materials, Missouri Valley Habitat for Humanity welcomes donations in the form of building materials. Since the beginning of the war in Iraq, the prices of lumber, plumbing supplies, and other construction materials have risen 20-30%, and in some cases, nearly 50%. Each home design is specific to the size of the family and the size of the lot covenants. Therefore, it is difficult for us to accept doors, windows and plumbing fixtures. On the other hand, if you wish to provide the project with shingles, sheet rock, or other "general" building materials, we could certainly make use of them. All building materials are considered a charitable contribution and are tax deductible.

In-Kind Services:
Each house, built by Habitat, requires a professional to do certain work. For instance, a professional plumber is paid to install the water and sewer system, a professional sheet rocker comes in to do the taping and texturing of the walls and ceilings, and professional cement finishers complete the sidewalks and driveway. Perhaps you own or work for a business in a position to donate a service like those mentioned. Your in-kind donation is also tax deductible because it is a charitable contribution. If it is feasible for you or your company to donate such in-kind services, Habitat would provide the materials.
